TEHRAN, Iran, Apr.6

Trend:

It is expected that the chicken market across Iran would stabilize soon, said the Minister of Agriculture.

"Following Iranian government recent measures to increase the supply of chicken meat to Tehran Province there has been a surplus of this commodity and market across the country would soon return to tranquility," said Kazem Khavazi, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"The volume of daily chicken meat supply to Tehran province has increased from 400 tons per day to 1,850 tons per day and considering the current volume of chicken meat supply in Tehran, we are having a surplus of this commodity," he said.

"There is no problem in the production of protein products. There has been a violation in distribution companies and there has been hoarding of frozen chicken meat. At the moment three other provinces of East Azerbaijan, Sistan, Balouchestan, Kohgiluyeh, and Boyer-Ahmad are facing a shortage of chicken meat and we are following the issue to solve it," Khavazi noted.

The country has cut reliance on the import of butter in last Iranian year (started March 20, 2020), previously between 45,000 to 50,000 tons of butter was being imported. The trade balance in the agriculture sector has improved in the last Iranian year from minus $6.7 billion in 2019 to minus $2.4 billion.

The average daily wages for the workforce had a 49 percent increase and transport costs had a 30 percent rise from 2019 to 2020 that affect the final price of agricultural commodities. Import of corn, barley, soy, and press cake receives 42,000 rials per US dollar while other inputs in the agriculture sector are sold based on free-market price.
