The Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of the first phase of the passenger terminal project at Imam Khomeini Airport.

The Minister of Roads and Urban Development said the development of Imam Airport Airport should have happened 20 years ago so that we could consider IKA International Airport as a large transit and cross-border regional hub.
Saying that the capacity of 500 million passengers per year in West Asia is very significant, Eslami said that targets for the capacity of Imam Airport, we have considered the transportation of 100 million passengers per year.
He went on to say that the domestic and foreign investors tried to be a part of the development of the IKA International Airport project
“We only used the domestic investment to develop the airport.”
“The amount of passenger transportation in 2019 was about 46 million passengers,” he said. “We should add 10 million passengers to the capacity of the country's airports annually with development plans.”
He pointed out that with the development of IKA international Airport`s second Terminal, the capacity will reach 60 million passengers per year.
He announced that from today, the Imam Khomeini International Airport City will operate as a free zone.
