TEHRAN, Iran, June.28

Trend:

Iran's Hormozgan Province annually produces 260,000 tons of fish while 30 percent of ports in the province are fishery ports and catch 36 percent of the country's fisheries, said the head of Agriculture Organization in Hormozgan Province.

Hormozgan Province annually produces 20,000 tons of shrimp in 7,000 hectares of shrimp farms, said Ali Bagherzadeh, Trend reports citing IRNA.

It is predicted that more than 4,800 hectares would be used to produce 18,000 tons of shrimp that 80 percent are being exported.

"It is estimated that the province would harvest 20 tons of sturgeon meat by the end of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2021) that is 3 tons more than last Iranian year (started March 20, 2020)," said the deputy of Hormozgan Fisheries.

There are 15 active sturgeon farms in the province and another farm would operate with 50 tons sturgeon fish capacity by the end of the current Iranian year.

Hormozgan Province fishing ports require renovation and dredging. There has been progress in the complementary operation plans for Bandar Abbas fishing port. The coastal area of Jask is a unique location in the province for shrimp and fish farming that requires planning and sustainable use of resources.
