Iranian Free Zones High Council talks investments in infrastructure

The Secretary of the Supreme Council of Free and Special Economic Zones of Iran announced the investment of $1.9 billion in various civil and infrastructure sectors of the free zones.

At the opening ceremony of several projects in free and special economic zones, the Secretary of Iranian Free Zones High Council Hamidreza Mo'meni said that economic development is possible by providing infrastructure, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The Free Zones Organizations have invested $1.9 billion in infrastructure, which includes $690 million in the logistics sector, $571 million in the urban development sector, $309 million in tourism, and $214 in the education and treatment sector, he said.

Momeni stated that free and special economic zones constitute half of the area and one percent of the total population of the country.

Noting that 44 percent of the total non-oil exports of the whole country belong to these areas he said that only 14 percent of the total imports have been done by free-special zones.

He went on to say that the total value of an investment in Free Special Zones of Iran in the last eight years was $95 billion.
