The Ministry of Energy of Iran has identified some 13,000 small and big cryptocurrency mining farms in the country, by using artificial intelligence, said Iran's Minister of Information Communication and Technology Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"The security sources have already confronted 300 major cryptocurrency mining farms and closed them down," said Jahromi.
"The precision in identifying these farms were 99 percent," he said, adding that the revealed farms were presented to the relevant authorities.
"It has been reported that 580 megawatt has been consumed by unauthorized cryptocurrency mining farms. The recent government meeting discussed the issue, so that the security forces would confront illegal farms faster," he said.
"The fact is that small part of recent blackouts were caused by cryptocurrency mining but this small portion was equal to power consumption in half of west of Tehran, so this problem needs to be tackled," he said.
