Trend:

The Head of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) announced the import of two modern dredging vessels into the country.

Shahid Rajaei port development project has begun in January 2017 with the order of the president, and the parts of the project will be opened soon, Mohammad Rastad said, Trend reports citing ILNA.

Referring to the capacity of Shahid Rajaei port, he noted that the ships with a capacity of 18,400 TEUs can load and unload over the port's docks.

Referring to the amount of private sector investment in ports Rastad added that the private sector invested in ports via a build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract, with 32,000 people currently employed.

He announced the import of two dredging vessels in the country's maritime service fleet after half a century.

“Three Oil Tanker Berthing on Oil Terminal of Shahid Rajaei port will be put into operation today,” Rastad said adding that these Berths will facilitate the oil export.

The PMO has ordered the construction of 83 service fleets to the domestic maritime industry, he stressed.

Rastad emphasized that despite the sanctions and the coronavirus outbreak, the activities of the ports did not stop for a single day.

He announced that 16 new projects worth $714 million in the maritime and port are ready to be inaugurated.
