TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.3
Iran is importing 18,000 tons of hay from Russia, due to drought-affected domestic hay production in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2021), said the commercial consultant in Union of Animal Farmers in Iran's Alborz Province Kasra Lashkari, Trend reports citing ILNA.
"The Ministry of Agriculture approved the import of hay from Russia," he said. "Currently, the order stands at 18,000 tons.
Iran's hay cultivation has declined considerably in the current Iranian year due to drought and water shortage.
Iran has imported hay from Spain in previous years with better quality and higher protein, but the product is more expensive compared to Russia and Kazakhstan.
