Iran eyes big petrochemical production rise by next several years

Iran's petrochemical production capacity is estimated to increase by 64 percent, to 141 million tons a year by the end of the Seventh Development Plan (2022-2026), Deputy Oil Minister Morteza Shahmirzaei said, Trend reports via IRNA.

"Iran's current petrochemical production is 90 million tons per year," said the official.

"He went on to add that Iran produces 40 million tons of finished petrochemical products, of which 30 million tons are exported, and 10 million tons are sold domestically," he indicated.

Shahmirzaei also said that in Iran demands for petrochemical products will experience a 4.5-percent increase by 2030.

There are 70 ongoing petrochemical projects in the country, which require about $36 billion worth of investment. So far, only $8.5 billion has been invested.
