TEHRAN, Iran, Jan.7
Trend:
Iran's canned and processing industry is being challenged by shortage of oil, due to a 40-day delay in oil distribution, said secretary of Iran's Syndicate of Canning Industry Mohammad Mirazavi, Trend reports
The Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for supplying raw materials for production in the processed industry, and the forty-day delay inflicted heavy losses to producers, Mirazavi noted.
Producing processed food including canned tuna fish, beans, chocolate, and sweets requires oil, and the delay in supply has affected the production, he said.
The government is importing oil and raw material based on official foreign exchange of 42,000 rials per USD, and eliminating the rate would reduce people's purchasing power, Mirazavi said.
Canned tuna fish consumption has declined in Iran due to rising prices, leading to reduced production at small processing factories.
