BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 30. The inaugural transit train loaded with Russian goods has arrived in Bandar Abbas, Iran, en route to its final destination, Saudi Arabia, Trend reports.
Once the necessary legal formalities are completed, the train will depart from Bandar Abbas for Saudi Arabia, as explained by Ali-Reza Nasiri Barazandeh, the overseer of the Railway Department in Hormozgan, the southern Iranian province.
This rail transit, cutting across the Iranian port, marks a significant step towards establishing a novel and sustainable railway system that aligns with serving diverse economic interests.
The decision to use Bandar Abbas as the transit point for Russian goods destined for Saudi Arabia presents a lucrative opportunity for boosting customs revenue, he further elaborated.
The continuation of transit activities along this railway line stands as a testament to the sound direction that the present Iranian administration has taken to foster economic growth, emphasized Barazandeh.
On March 10, 2023, Iran and Saudi Arabia, with the facilitation of China, reached an agreement to reinstate diplomatic relations. About a month later, the foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia convened in Beijing, where they affirmed their commitment to reopening their respective diplomatic missions and pursuing various cooperative arrangements.
