Iran increases guaranteed wheat purchases from farmers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 13. The volume of guaranteed wheat purchased in Iran from farmers from April 10 through June 13 increased by 37,000 tons compared to the same period last year, Iran's Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Executive Director of the State Trading Company Seyed Rad said, Trend reports.

According to him, the volume of wheat purchased in 21 of Iran's 31 provinces amounted to more than 4.6 million tons. The remaining 10 provinces have not yet started wheat purchases.

Rad noted that so far, the value of purchased wheat has amounted to 705 trillion rials (about $1.86 billion). So far, about 303 trillion rials (about $797 million) have been paid to farmers. The process of disbursing the remaining funds is ongoing.

The deputy minister stated that among 21 provinces, 1.58 million tons of guaranteed wheat have been purchased from farmers, mainly in Khuzestan province, 796,000 tons in Golestan province, 388,000 tons in Pars province, 274,000 tons in Ilam Province, 225,000 tons in Kerman Province.

Moreover, it is planned to harvest wheat from 6 million hectares in Iran this year (2 million hectares are conventional areas and 4 million hectares are agricultural lands). At least 14 million tons of wheat are planned to be harvested.

To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 1 kg of wheat in Iran is guaranteed to be purchased by the state trading company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
