Iran to return to Vienna talks with new negotiating team

TEHRAN, Iran, Sept. 20

Trend:

Iran's nuclear negotiating team is going to be changed, Iran`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"If the US puts aside the unilateral approach, the Vienna talks will be better," he said.

Khatibzadeh pointed out that the US should return to Vienna with a different approach.

In his first live TV interview on Sept. 5, Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi said Iran doesn't oppose the principle of negotiations, however negotiations under pressure are unacceptable.

Prior to Raisi’s election as Iranian president in June, the US and Iran participated in six rounds of indirect talks in Vienna, to hash out the steps that each side would need to take to return to compliance with the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The European Union coordinated the negotiations on behalf of the other parties to the deal —China, France, Germany, Russia, and the United Kingdom.
