Iran begins repairing operations at Bushehr NPP

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 4

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Iran began replacing the annual fuel plates and repairing important equipment of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in the Bushehr Province (southern Iran) as of October 2, 2021, Trend reports citing Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).

According to the report, fuel changes and technical inspections are necessary for the nuclear power plant to perform its function reliably and safely.

As a result of the power plant's operation, 78 million barrels of crude oil have been saved so far, as well as the release of 43 million tons of pollutants into the environment.

One of the main benefits of nuclear power plants is the prevention of greenhouse gas emissions. That is why the construction and operation of nuclear power plants in developed and developing countries is in the spotlight.

The Bushehr NPP has generated 51 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity since its operation and has played a major role in supplying the country with electricity.

At present, the Bushehr NPP is operated by local specialists.

The 1st unit of the Bushehr NPP was launched in 2011 by Russian Atomic Company (ROSATOM). In 2013, the development of the unit was handed over by the ROSATOM to an Iranian company. The unit has been generating 1,000 megawatt-hours of electricity per year since 2013.

Moreover, the nuclear power plant generated 5.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).
