Iran, Russia stress on nuclear cooperation

Officials from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) met their Russian counterparts on Tuesday.

"Today, accompanied by AEOI Deputy chief in International Affairs Behruz Kamalvandi, we held two rounds of meeting in the morning and afternoon with Rosatom chief Sergey Kiriyenko and deputy director Nicolay Spassky," Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanai posted on his Facebook page March 10.

He added that the two sides discussed the latest developments on Iran's nuclear program.

Sanai further said that the Iranian and Russian officials in the meetings stressed the need to implement bilateral agreements as soon as possible.

He added that Pezman Rahimian, consultant to the AEOI chief Ali Akbar Salehi also accompanied the Iranian team during the meetings.

Russia has agreed to cooperate with Iran on building to new nuclear power plants in the southern city of Bushehr. Tehran and Moscow also recently announced that they would jointly produce fuel for Iran's nuclear power plants.

Russia and Iran signed an agreement on March 2 to supply services to the Bushehr nuclear power plant, the head of Rosenergoatom said. According to Rosenergoatom Chief Executive Officer Evgeny Romanov, the firm agreed on a five-year cooperation deal with Iran.

Russian Company Rosatom and Iran's Atomic Energy Organization signed a treaty in 2014 to build the second and third units of the Bushehr Power Plant.
