Baku, Azerbaijan, Apr. 13

Iran's Border Guards commander Brigadier General Qassem Rezaei is visiting Azerbaijan to discuss joint border issues, the press service of Iran's embassy to Baku told Trend April 13.
Rezaee, who entered Nakhchivan this morning, will address an agreement with his Azerbaijani counterpart in a coordination session between border guard officials from Iran and Azerbaijan.
Implementing the protocols that have been passed and the ways and means will be discussed in the sessions, Rezaee said ahead of his trip in a press conference in Iran's northwestern Tabriz city.
Since the Iran-Azerbaijan border is a water border, there are not many problems except for some torrential streams, all of which will be solved through the protocols, he said, Fars news agency reported.
Rezaee further stated that the management of transit between the two countries will be another program on the agenda in the Nakhchivan meeting.
"Reopening the Aslanduz checkpoint will also be discussed in that session," he noted.
A number of memoranda of understanding were signed in Tehran at the eighth meeting between the Iranian border guards and the Azerbaijani State Border Service in February.
The commander of the Iranian border guards said the meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart discussed the prevention of smuggling, illegal border crossing and other border-related issues.
