Iranian, Russian FMs discuss settlement of crisis in Syria

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov talked by phone with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif Oct. 26. They discussed assistance in the political settlement of the crisis in Syria, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the Russian foreign ministry.
According to the Russian foreign ministry, the conversation was initiated by the Russian side.
"The views on the situation in Syria were exchanged in the context of countering terrorism and supporting for the political settlement of the crisis in the country," the ministry said.
Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry have recently discussed the prospects of a political settlement in Syria with the participation of authorities and patriotic opposition. They also talked by phone Oct. 24 and discussed Syria's problems.
On September 30, Russia's Sukhoi Su-25, Su-24M and Su-34 attack aircraft, with the support of Su-30 jets, began precision airstrikes against ISIL targets in Syria, following a request from Syrian President Bashar Assad.
