Trend:

Iran and Russia agreed to continue mutual visits for a close dialogue, TASS news agency reported citing an Iranian diplomatic source Feb. 22.

"The parties continued the discussions on the Syrian conflict," said the source, after a phone conversation between Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Russian president's special envoy for the Middle East and African countries and deputy foreign minister, Mikhail Bogdanov.

Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visited Tehran to meet his Iranian counterpart Hossein Dehghan and President Hassan Rouhani.

During the meeting with Rouhani, the parties discussed the Syrian conflict in detail.

Shoigu reportedly conveyed a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin to Rouhani regarding the negotiation process on the Syrian issue.
