Iran can act as regional watchtower, says MP
Tehran, Iran, Apr. 13
By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:
The Islamic Republic of Iran can work in cooperation with the world community as a regional watchtower to maintain peace and security, Javad Heravi, Iranian MP and head of the Iran-Italy parliamentary friendship group, told Trend Apr. 13.
Iran's role in fighting terrorism was stressed earlier during the Iranian officials' meetings with the Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in Tehran.
Further commenting on the Italian PM's two-day trip to Tehran, Heravi said although direct parliamentary meetings were not held during Renzi's visit, friendship groups' previous arrangements found tangible outcomes in various meetings held in the past two days.
Renzi led a big Italian economic and political delegation to Tehran April 12. The sides not only discussed bilateral political ties, but also stressed the importance of cooperation against the threat of terrorism.
Iranian leaders say the country's military power has turned it into a stable island in the Middle East, stating readiness to fight terrorism with the support of other countries.
