UN chief’s aide: Iran relying on suitable economic strategy

A senior UN official underlined that Iran's economy must use appropriate strategies in order to gain access to sustainable development, IRNA reported.

'Special attention should be paid to entrepreneurship in addition to balance in economy, social and environmental thought," Special Advisor to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the Millennium Development Goals Jeffrey David Sachs said.

Professor Jeffrey David Sachs in a press conference at the venue of the UN Central Bureau in Tehran on Monday afternoon said that Iran has implemented five economic and social development plans and is to begin the sixth plan, which is an important element in access to sustainable development.

He added that all big world economies are combined by two sectors of public and private sector, which play their own role by help of domestic or foreign companies.

Sachs said that both public and private sectors should accept and take responsibilities to access sustainable development.

He travelled to Tehran at the invitation of Iran's representative office in the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Professor Sachs is an economist, who is heading Earth Institute of New York-based Columbia University.
