Baku, Azerbaijan, June 9
By Farhad Daneshvar - Trend:
A source close to opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi has dismissed rumors suggesting the dissident cleric who has been under house arrest for the past five years has passed away.
Mohammad Taghi Karroubi, a son to Mehdi Karroubi, told Radio Liberty's Persian service, Radio Farda, that rumors regarding his father's death were first published through a Telegram App user, and they were false.
Meanwhile, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Science rejected reports saying that the opposition leader has died in a hospital affiliated with the university.
Esmail Ramazan, an official with the university, has told ILNA news agency that the reports on Karoubi's death are "sheer lie".
Mehdi Karroubi alongside with another opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi have been under house arrest following the 2009 post-presdiential election unrest.
