Ahmad Montazeri, the son of a prominent religious leader, has been arrested after publishing recorded materials of his late father denouncing executions of a number of Iranian dissidents in the country’s prisons in 1988.
Montazeri, a cleric, was taken into custody after the special clerical court of the country summoned him on Feb. 22, his website said in a statement.
Ahmad Montazeri, the son of Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri, one of the founding fathers of the Islamic Republic, will reportedly serve a six-year term in prison for releasing the audio tape.
The cleric earlier in August released a 40-minute recording of his father criticizing the execution of the dissidents in 1988.
