Iranians have erected a monument to the country's foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, reported local YJC website.

YJC said Tehran hosted Oct. 20 a ceremony to unveil a monument, erected on behalf of Iran's people and government for Zarif's efforts and success during nuclear talks with P5+1 (US, Russia, China, France, UK, and Germany).

After several months of talks, on July 14, Iran and the P5+1 announced a final accord, curbing Iran's nuclear program in exchange for lifting most of the international sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

FM Zarif was heading the nuclear talks from the Iranian side, and was directly involved in decision-making during the negotiations.

The ceremony to present Zarif's statue was also attended by Iran's First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri, and Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh.

Earlier, Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) in Sweden introduced Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the US Secretary of State John Kerry as candidates for the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize for their role in historic agreement.

IRNA quoted Tariq Rauf, SIPRI's director of the Disarmament, Arms Control and Non-Proliferation Program, as saying that the nuclear accord testifies grant of the 2016 Noble Peace Prize to John Kerry and Mohammad-Javad Zarif.
