Iranian police have arrested 53 individuals allegedly linked to the terrorist group "Islamic State" (IS aka ISIS or ISIS), Brigadier General Kamal Hadianfar, head of the Islamic Republic Cyber Police), told reporters.
He said those individuals have backed the terrorist group through online posts, Jamejam Online news website reported Dec. 7.
He also said some of them were released after interrogation, but others who confessed to the crime are still in custody.
"The individuals were active in the country's border regions," said Hadianfar.
He added that over the past eight months the police have identified and blocked 32 websites affiliated with the "Islamic State" in Iran.
Over the past few weeks, police have tightened security measures in capital Tehran deploying armed special forces on streets and to metro stations in preparation for tackling any possible terrorist attack as fears over attacks have raised in the country.
