Azerbaijan has hosted several cultural and educational activities in connection with World Maritime Day and the "Week of the Caspian Sea" program held by the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry, the ministry reported.

A 10km stretch of Caspian Sea coastline in the Lankaran and Astara regions were cleared of eight tons of household and other rubbish as part of the program.

About 15 tons of household and industrial waste was cleared from an area of five hectares in Absheron, Gobustan and Khizi. Twenty hectares of the coastal zone in the north-east of Azerbaijan was cleared of 30 tons of household and other waste.

The ministry's specialists gave lectures on the importance of protecting biological resources of the Caspian Sea in the Shirvan, Hajigabul, Bilasuvar, Neftchala, Salyan and Sabirabad regions.

The ministry also held cleaning day on the coastal zone of the Caspian Sea in the Neftchala region.
