The state support for the agrarian sector increased in 2008. AZN 80mln was provided to the National Fund for Entrepreneurship Development, AZN 40mln for Agrolizinq JSC and AZN 5mln for the State Agency for Agricultural Credits to provide privilege credits to the farmers, improve leasing services, develop entrepreneurship. Furthermore, the Reserve Fund of Azerbaijan President provided AZN 25mln for acquisition of pedigree cattle and mineral fertilizers, construction of special storehouses for mineral fertilizers and equipment, AZN 50mln was allocated to take measures to ensure food security.
As measures of State financial aid to the agricultural producers, fuel and motor oil, mineral fertilizers were provided to be sold to 652,000 physical and legal entities on privilege conditions. AZN 76.5mln was spent in this regard. As a result, the planting area significantly increased.
Thus, in 2008 the cost of agricultural production in constant prices grew by 6.1% as compared to 2007, including in the plant growing - 7.2%, in cattle breeding - 4.1%.
According to the data by the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, as of 1 January 2009, the total amount of the agricultural production made up AZN 3300mln as compared to AZN 2764.97mln in the same period of 2007.
The actual cost of the forestry production totaled AZN 1,409,700 as compared to AZN 1,222,400 in 2007, fishery - AZN 194,800 as compared to AZN 173,300 in 2007.

According to the data provided by the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, in 2008 the production of cereal crops, including corn, in Azerbaijan reached the record the index of the harvest - 2,498,300 tons from 904,700 hectares. The average productivity of grain per hectare increased by 0.5 metric centners to 27.6 metric centners.
The depressing indices in 2008 were observed on the collection of cotton plant on the agricultural land, in spite of state measures for the restoration of the former volume of the production.
According to the data provided by the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, the harvest of cotton in Azerbaijan was 55,400 tons, which is 44.7% less than the last year's index. Reduction in the production of cotton is connected with the decrease of planted area by 27,100 ha this year because of the unfavorable weather conditions.
Analogous situation was observed with the harvest of tobacco. Because of the decrease in the planted area of tobacco by 17.7%, the harvest of tobacco reduced by 14.7%.
In 2008 harvesting of potatoes was 107,700 (+3.8 as compared to 2007), vegetable - 1,228,300 tons (+0.1%), melon and water melon - 407,600 tons (-2.4%).
In 2008 sugar beet for the processing was planted on the area of 6,600 ha, and 181,500 tons of harvest were harvested from this area, which is 21.2% more than last year's index.
This year record volume of fruits and berry was collected - 711,500 tons. The harvesting of fruits increased by 5%, grapes - 11.4%.

In 2008 growth was observed in the livestock productions compared to the last year. Thus, during this period the meat production made up 302,800 tons (+2.9%) as compared to 294,200 tons in 2008. In December 2008 the meat production composed 25,300 tons as compared to 25,900 tons in December 2007.
Milk production in 2008 equaled 1,381,600 tons as compared to 1,341,300 in 2007 (+3%), eggs - 1,008,700 (+15.8%) as compared to 871,000 in 2007, wool - 14,800 tons (+3.8%) as compared to 14,200 tons in 2007.

In December 2008 the production prices for the agricultural products in Azerbaijan increased by 2.5% as compared to the previous months. In 2008 12.5% growth was observed for this production as compared to 2007.
In December 2008 the production of plant growing and melon growing fell in price by 0.7% as compared to November, and fruits and hazelnut - 3.7%. The cost of the specialized gardening products grew by 3.5%, but the cost of grains lowered by 1.3%.
An increase of 4.3% was observed on the livestock production.
