Consumer market

In the first quarter of 2010 a rise of the retail goods turnover got restored amid continuing rise of the community services and was 8.9%. The amount of retail goods turnover comprised AZN 4142.1mln. In particular, 75.1% of growth accounted for retail trade, 24.9% - paid services.

In January-March 2010 trading networks of Azerbaijan sold population consumer goods at 3112.1 million manat, which is 8.3% more than 2009. Legal entities provided 14.1% of turnover, fairs and markets - 41.6%, individual entrepreneurs - 43.6%.

According to the data provided by the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, of the total amount, AZN 2035.5mln was made up of foodstuffs, AZN 1076.6mln - non foodstuffs. The increase in sales on both goods was 7.7% and 10.2% respectively.  

In the first quarter 2010, every citizen of the country acquired consumer goods and paid services at 155.2 manat that is 9.6 manat higher than 2009. 

In the first quarter 2010 commercial services to population made up 1030.0 million manat, or up 10.6 percent. Individual entrepreneurs provided 20.4% of services, legal entities - 27.6%, with growth of 13.4% and 10.1% respectively.

Prices

In the first quarter, the prices for consumer goods and tariffs for services rose 1.3 percent compared with the previous month, and compared to January-March 2009 grew by 3.8 percent (data from State Statistics Committee).

The prices for food products in March rose 2.4 percent compared to February, non-food products decreased by 0.1 percent, and tariffs for service dropped 0.3 percent. 

Compared with the first quarter of 2009, food prices grew by 2.5 percent, non-food products - 1.6 percent, and tariffs for the service sector - 8.5 percent.

In March 2010, the base index of the consumer prices incurring seasonal changes (fruits and vegetable) and being regulated by the Government made up 100.3% as compared to the previous month, and 101.6% to 2009.    

As compared to the previous month, in March 2010 the index of industrial goods price increased 0.3%, but rose 71.9% compared to the same period of the last year.

The price in oil and gas production increased 0.4 percent in March compared to previous month, but rose 2 times in January-March compared to the same period of 2009.

The prices in refining chemical products decreased 0.3% in the month and growth totaled 4.8% at annualized pace.

In March, the prices in metallurgy decreased 4.1 percent compared to the previous month, but declined 4.8% at annualized pace. The prices for electricity, gas and water remained unchanged compared to previous month, and during the year.
