Sowing of spring plantings continues in Azerbaijan. As of May 1, spring plants were sown in the territory of 232,200 ha.

In January-April 2010, the spring sowing of grain and grain legumes was carried out on the territory 34,400 ha, sugar beet - 7,000 ha, potatoes - 51,500 ha, vegetables - 49,300 ha, cotton - 9,600 ha.

In the structure of spring sowing, cereals and legumes accounted for 14.8 percent, industrial crops - 9.6 percent, potatoes, vegetables and melons - 51 percent, plants under feed - 24,1 percent.

In January-April, were produced 220 tons of potatoes and 27,300 tons of vegetables, which is 10 percent and 17 percent more than the same period of last year respectively.
During the reporting period, Azerbaijan produced 95.4 tons of meat, 460,400 tons of milk, 399.6 million chicken eggs. Milk production for the year grew by 4.1 percent, eggs - by 1 percent, while meat production declined by 1.5 percent.

According to official statistics, in January-April the total agricultural production in Azerbaijan grew by 1.4 percent, including crop production - by 11.2 percent, livestock - 1 percent.

The agricultural production amounted to 470.8 million manat, an increase of 1.4 percent compared to the same period of the last year. The cost of forestry products at the actual prices for the reported period amounted to 442 manat compared to 445 manat in January-April, fishery - 50 manat compared to 74.8 manat.

In April, the production prices for agricultural products in Azerbaijan increased by 1.8 percent compared to March. Production prices for livestock products rose by 3.3 percent, crop - 0.5 percent compared to the last month.

Production prices for grains and melons rose by 2 per cent, some fruits - 1.3 percent, olives and nuts - 0.7 percent, potatoes - 0.3 percent. Vegetables prices dropped by 0.2 percent, citrus plants - 0.3 percent, other vegetables - 2.5 percent.

Production prices for livestock increased: for calves - 28.7 percent, cattle - 2.9 percent, sheep - 1.9 percent.
