Community income

According to the data provided by the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, in January-July 2010, the nominal income of the population totaled AZN 13604.0 million which is 9.3% more as compared to January-July 2009.

During this period, the nominal per capita income made up AZN 1527.4, which exceeds the figure in 2009 by 8.0%. The rise in salaries in various spheres of economy and rise in social benefits also contributed to the growth in population income. However, despite the growing indicators, the growth rate of population's incomes has declined. Thus, in January-July 2009 the nominal income of the population compared to the same period of 2008 grew by 13.6 percent and per capita income - by 12.1 percent.

In January-July 2010, Azerbaijani citizens distributed their income in following way: 70.2% on purchase of goods and services, 9.5% - obligatory payment and fees, 18.7% - purchase of foreign currency and increase of savings.  

Real community incomes after the payment of taxes and membership fees made up 12305.3mln manat, or 9.9% more than last year. Real per capita community income made up AZN 1381.6 with rise of 8.6%.

Thus, during the reported period the money expenditure comprised AZN 10842.4mln or AZN 2761.6mln less than the incomes of population, but 11.6% more than the expenses in 2009. (Source: State Statistics Committee, calculations by Trend).

 

Salary

The salary is one of the key social and economic indicators, which sufficiently enough characterizes the level of the prosperity of the working part of the population. Thus, the amount of average monthly salary in Azerbaijan in January-July 2010 comprised AZN 316.3 or 5.3% more than the same period of 2009. There is a decline in growth rates of salary as well. Thus, compared with 2008, in January-July 2009 the salary rose by 17.8 percent.

In spite of rise in salaries of various organizations, this indicator retains its differentiation across the country. The highest salary accounts for industry, finance, operations with real estate, rent and consumer services and construction sector.

Employees of enterprises and organizations received social benefits in amount of 7.4mln manat. Major beneficiaries were employees of the extractive industry, energy, gas and water producing and distributing enterprises, refining industry, transport and communications.

 

Labor market

As of August 1, 2010, the economically active people in Azerbaijan made up 4,338,900 with 4,079,800 involved in economy.

The number of hired workers as of August 1 totaled 1,358,400.

Of them, 19.4% are involved in industry, 4.7% in construction, 2.7% in agriculture, forestry and fishing, 26% in education, 20.2% in wholesale and retail trade, repair of automobiles, home wares and personal things, 10.1% in health and social services, 5.6% in transport and communications, 3.9% in state governance and defense, 1.5% - in communal, social and personal service spheres and 0.6% - operation in real estate.

In January-June, the number of foreigners involved in economic activities in Azerbaijan amounted to 7,091 people, with 2,272 persons employed in industry, 2,620 - in construction, 31 - in operations with real estate, 309 - in trade, 339 - in education sector, 168 - in communication and information, 102 - in transport, 176 - in other spheres.

As of August 1, 2010 there were 39,700 unemployed people, with 43.5% women in Azerbaijan. Five people applied for one vacancy in the country. The average unemployment benefit made up 154.4 manat.

During January-June 2010, 36,127 new jobs have been opened in Azerbaijan, including 26,292 permanent jobs. 109,740 new jobs, including 80,807 permanent jobs, were opened from January 2009 to July 1, 2010.

Of the established permanent new jobs, 14.6 per cent accounted for new enterprises and organizations, 15.9 percent for existing businesses and organizations, 0.5 percent for enterprises which have restored their activities, 69.0 percent for jobs created by individuals.

Of the jobs created, 92.7 percent accounted for the private sector. Most of the jobs were created in the non-oil sector: 6.5 percent in construction sector, 3.9 percent - in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, 3.1 percent - in the processing industry, 1.4 percent - in transport and warehousing, 1.8 per cent - in agriculture and others.

Today in Azerbaijan was eliminated most of such a big social problem as unemployment within State program of socio-economic development of regions in 2009-2013. Since 2004, when the task was to open 600,000 new jobs, about 800,000 jobs have been created.

At the same time, an increase was recorded in the number of foreign nationals arriving in Azerbaijan over recent years. Today, according to the restrictions imposed on foreign labor, Azerbaijan seriously regulates immigration matters, to protect the rights of Azerbaijani citizens more reliably. Regulating migration first creates conditions for the work of citizens of Azerbaijan, as well as good conditions for foreigners.

If the number of unemployed in Azerbaijan 10 years ago was 525,000 people, today this figure has fallen to 260,000.
