Prices and situation in consumer market in Azerbaijan (January-September 2010)

In January-September 2010, a rise of the retail goods turnover got restored amid continuing rise of the community services and was 8.9%. The amount of retail goods turnover comprised AZN 12.9bln. In particular, 74.6% accounted for retail trade, 25.4% - paid services.

In January-September 2010 trading networks of Azerbaijan sold population consumer goods at 9633.7 million manat, which is 8.5% more than 2009. Legal entities provided 14.1% of turnover, fairs and markets - 44.1%, individual entrepreneurs - 44.1%.

In January-September 2010, every citizen of the country acquired consumer goods and paid services at 160.3 manat that is 13.2 percent higher than 2009. 

In January-September 2010 commercial services to population made up 3280.5 million manat, or up 10.5 percent. Individual entrepreneurs provided 72.0% of services, legal entities - 27.9%, with growth of 11.1% and 9.1% respectively.

Prices

In January-September, the prices for consumer goods and tariffs for services rose 0.9 percent compared with the previous month, and compared to January-September 2009 grew by 5.2 percent (data from State Statistics Committee).

The prices for food products in September rose 1.9 percent compared to August, non-food products rose 0.5 percent, and tariffs for service declined 0.9%. 

Compared with January-September 2009, food prices grew by 5.7 percent, non-food products - 2.0 percent, and tariffs for the service sector - 5.8 percent.

In September 2010, the base index of the consumer prices incurring seasonal changes (fruits and vegetable) and being regulated by the Government rose by 1.1% as compared to the previous month, and 2.9% to 2009.    

As compared to the previous month, in September 2010 the index of industrial goods price declined 0.2%, but rose 38.2% compared to the same period of the last year.

The price in oil and gas production remained unchanged in September compared to previous month, but rose 42.2% in January-September compared to the same period of 2009. 

The prices in refining chemical products decreased 0.7% in the month, but increased 10.2% at annualized pace.  

In September, the prices in metallurgy increased 0.9 percent compared to the previous month, but rose 30.9% at annualized pace. The prices for electricity, gas and water remained unchanged compared to previous month, and during the year.
