Population's income
According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, in January-April 2012, the nominal income of the population totaled 9.761.1 billion manat which is 14.1 percent more as compared to the same period of 2011.
Thus, during this period, the nominal income of the population per capita increased by 12.6 percent to 1.068.6 manat.
The average monthly income per capita was 267.1 manat.
The growth rate of income per capita exceeded the growth in consumer prices by 9.9 percent.

In January-April 2012, Azerbaijani citizens distributed their income in following way: 65.3 percent on purchase of goods and services, 9.1 percent - payment of taxes, duties and fees, 23.4 percent - capital accumulation, 2.2 percent - repayment of loan debts.
Real income after the payment of taxes and membership fees in Jan.-April 2012 made up 8.9 bln manat or 14.2 percent more than the same period of 2011. Real income per capita made up 971.4 manat with a growth of 12.7 percent.
Thus, during this period the expenditure of the population in Jan.-April 2012 comprised 7.262.2 bln manat or 2.498.9 billion manat less than the income of population, but 7.8 percent more than the expenses in the same period of 2011. (Source: State Statistics Committee, calculations by Trend).
The gap in the amount of revenues and expenditures of the population in favor of income, testifies to the growth of material well-being of Azerbaijani citizens. The differentiation in population's income and the availability of the Gini coefficient in the country should be taken into account
Salary
The salary is one of the key social and economic indicators, which sufficiently enough characterizes the level of the prosperity of the working part of the population. According to the data provided by the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, the amount of average monthly salary in Azerbaijan in January-March 2012 comprised 378.9 or 8.7 percent more than the same period of 2011. The salary index exceeded by 41.8 per cent the average cash income per capita per month (267.1 manat).
The highest salary was fixed in the mining industry, financial and insurance activity, information and communication, scientific and technological activity, as well as in the construction sector.
During the period part-time employees' salary in enterprises and organizations of the country amounted to 203.1 manat. The average salary of the persons employed under the contract amounted to 352.7 manat.
Labor market
According to the data provided by the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, there were 38,500 unemployed people, with 42.6 percent women. Three unemployed claim for one vacancy in the country.
Able-bodied citizens in Azerbaijan made up 4.632 million including 4.386 million people work in different economic and social spheres.
About 1.362 hired people were registered in Jan.-March. About 845,300 people work in the public sector and 516,200 - in private.
Of the hired employees involved in the production spheres: 21.4 percent in industry, 6.1 percent in construction, 2.9 percent in agriculture, forestry and fishing, 24.6 percent in education, 19.9 percent in wholesale and retail trade, repair of automobiles, home wares and personal things, 9.7 percent in health and social services, 4.8 percent in transport, 0.8 percent - in real estate operations, 4.1 percent - communal, social and personal services and 1 percent in other spheres.

As of May 1, 2012 the largest number of unemployed was registered in Baku (12,960 people, of which 760 people received unemployment benefits) and eighteen regions of Aran economic region (10,238 and 464 people respectively).
During this period the benefit was received by 2,234 people compared to 1,997 people as of April 1.
The average amount of unemployment benefit was 205 manat as of May 1, 2012 compared to 210 manat as of April 1. In April, the unemployment benefit in Azerbaijan fell by 2.4 percent compared to March. Taking into account the consumer inflation per month (deflation by 0.4 percent), the actual amount of benefit decreased by 2 percent.
New jobs
About 25,376 new, including 20,937 permanent jobs were created in Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2012. About 7.1 per cent of new jobs were created in established enterprises and organizations, 12.6 per cent - at existing companies, 0.1 percent at restored companies. Physical entities created 80.2 percent of new jobs.
About 34.7 percent of the new jobs fell to Baku, 63.5 percent - the regions of the country
About 94.7 percent of new jobs were created in the private sector. Most of these jobs were created in non-oil sector, 4 percent - the construction sector, 3 percent - in the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, 1.1 percent - processing industry, 0.5 percent - agriculture and others.
Provision of pensions
According to the Azerbaijani State Social Protection Fund, as of April 1, 2012, the number of people receiving labor pensions, amounted to 1,275,630 persons.
About 39 percent (498,190 pensioners) are men, 61 percent (777,440) - women of the people receiving labor pensions. About 807,941 people receive retirement pensions, 333,730 people - pensions on disability, 133,959 people receive occupational pensions because of loss of head of family.
As a result of the reforms implemented in 2011 in the pension-insurance system, serious steps have been taken to strengthen social protection of labor pensioners. This led to an increase in the average amount of labor pension. As of April 1, 2012, the average monthly pension is 150 manat and the average amount of labor pension on age - 166 manat.
The ratio between average amount of pensions in the country and the average wage hit 40 percent, labor pension on age - 45 percent.
