Population's income

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the nominal income of the population totaled 9.081.8 billion manat in January-March 2014, which is 4.5 percent more compared to January-March 2013.

Thus, during this period, the nominal income of the population per capita increased by 3.2 percent and hit 969.2 manat.

Azerbaijani citizens spent 70.9 percent of income on goods and services, 8.6 percent - to pay for taxes, duties, social and insurance fees and to pay off the loans and interest, 2.2 percent - to pay for loans, 18.3 percent - to accumulate the capital in January-March 2014.

The population's income after paying all required fees and membership fees made up 8.3 billion manat, which is 18.5 percent more than in January-March 2013. Real income per capita increased by 3.5 percent to 885.8 manat.

The population's money expenditure amounted to 7.419.7 billion manat in January-March 2014 or 1.662.1 billion manat less than the income of the population, but by 16.8 percent more than the expenditure in January-March 2013 (according to the State Statistics Committee, Trend calculations).

The gap in the amount of the population's income and expenditure in favor of income testifies to the growth of material well-being of Azerbaijani citizens. The differentiation of the population's income and the Gini coefficient in the country should be taken into account.

Salary

The salary is one of the key social and economic indicators, which sufficiently enough characterizes the level of the prosperity of the working part of the population. According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the hired employees' average monthly salary in Azerbaijan in January-February 2014 comprised 426.4 manat compared to 423 manat as of 2013.

As of March 1, 2014, the average salary of temporary staff was 269.5 manat, while employees involved upon civil contracts - 319.5 manat.

Remuneration in the oil sector reached 1.695.3 manat per month, the non-oil sector - 397.3 manat, the public sector - 344.2 manat, the private sector - 550.2 manat.

The highest salary was observed in the mining industry, financial, information and communication, scientific and technical activity, as well as the construction sectors.

Labor market

As of April 1, 2014, there were 4.765.9 million working people compared to 4.764.7 million people as of March 1.

The number of people working in the oil sector amounted to 35,200 people, in the non-oil sector - 1.458.9 million people. Around 1.451.3 million people among hired employees work in non-agricultural sphere.

Around 21.8 percent fall to the hired employees involved in the production spheres: 6.5 percent in construction, 6.2 percent in manufacturing industry, 2.9 percent in agriculture, forestry and fishing, 2.4 percent - in the mining industry, 2.1 percent - in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam, 1.7 percent - in water supply, waste recycling, 22.7 percent in education, 18.8 percent - trade, repair of vehicles, 8.7 percent - medical and social services, 6.7 percent in state governance and defense, social maintenance, 5.0 percent - transportation and warehousing, 3.8 percent - recreation, entertainment and arts, 3.7 percent - professional, scientific and technical activities, 1.8 percent - communication and information, 2.0 percent - financial and insurance activities, 0.8 percent - real estate transactions, 1.6 percent - administrative and additional services, 1.5 percent - tourist accommodation and food and 1.1 percent - other areas.

As of April 1, 2014, around 36,825 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan compared to 36,619 citizens as of March 1 and 36,209 as of early 2014. Thus, the number of unemployed increased by 206 people in March and by 616 people for the current year.

As of April 1, 2014, the largest number of unemployed was registered in 12 administrative districts of Baku (13,678 people, of which 609 people received unemployment benefits) and eighteen regions of Aran economic region (10,130 and 347 people respectively)

As of early April 2014, an unemployment benefit was 246 manat compared to 244.3 manat as of March. In March, the unemployment benefit in Azerbaijan increased by 0.7 percent compared to February. Taking into account the decline in consumer prices per month (0.3 percent), the real benefit amount increased by 0.4 percent. As of April 1, 2014, some 1,825 received it compared to 1,480 citizens as of March 1 and 636 people as of the beginning of the year.

The Azerbaijani government continues taking measures to increase the employment level. Thus, the State Employment Service under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Labor and Social Protection conducted the job fairs for the unemployed in the country's regions. The first job fair was held in Shamkir region. Some 24 enterprises offered 179 vacancies. Some 130 people were provided with job placement. The next job fair will be held in Azerbaijan's Ismayilli region.

The State Employment Service under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare provided 6,191 people with jobs in January-March 2014, 268 people were involved in paid public work, 879 people were provided with temporary work at the employment exchange. During this period 651 people were attracted to the retraining courses.

The State Service attaches great importance to rendering assistance to young people in the correct choice of specialties. The appropriate events were conducted for the period in 32 districts and towns in the country. Some 26,604 senior pupils were consulted in this area.

Social maintenance

According to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population, as of April 1, 2014, the state targeted social assistance was assigned to 139,573 families (612,114 people) in Azerbaijan. Some 39,143 families have three or more children.

Some 6,613 children under one year in the families receive targeted social assistance, under 18 years old - 293,213, the number of children under the age of 18 years old with disabilities - 6,618 people. Some 33,843 people in the families receiving assistance are older 18 years old with disabilities. The number of working members of such families is 35,567 people.

The disabled veterans are members of 1,852 families, 365 - families of martyrs and 12,583 - internally displaced people's families are among those receiving social aid.

The average amount of social assistance per one family is 128.07 manat.

Pension system

As of April 1, 2012, the number of persons receiving retirement pensions amounted to 1,281,712 people in Azerbaijan.

According to the Azerbaijani State Social Protection Fund, some 61.5 percent or 787,680 people among the people receiving retirement pensions receive contributory retirement pension. Some 356,188 people (27.7 percent of the total number of pensioners) receive disability pensions, while 137,844 people (10.8 percent) due to the loss of the family head.

As of April 1, some 39 percent (508,599 pensioners) of the total number of those receiving labor pensions are men, 61 percent (773,113) - women. The number of working pensioners is 129,591 people.

As a result of reforms in the pension-insurance system, significant actions were taken in the direction of strengthening the social protection of pensioners. This increased the amount of an average monthly retirement pension by 5.8 times - up to 171.7 manat compared to early 2006. An average monthly retirement pension is 189.6 manat , pension on disability - 148.9 manat, due to the loss of the family head - 128.2 manat.
