Ilham Aliyev meets with BP CEO

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Chief Executive Officer of BP Robert Dudley in Istanbul. President Aliyev and Dudley hailed the importance of the 23rd World Energy Congress, which is being held in Istanbul bringing together high-level delegates from more than 60 countries. The sides also exchanged views on Azerbaijan-BP cooperation prospects.

Azerbaijan, Russia create JV to transport grain by rail

Azerbaijan Railways CJSC and Rusagrotrans CJSC, Russia’s rail infrastructure operator providing transportation of grain and agricultural bulk cargoes by specialized railcar fleet, have signed documents in Baku to create a joint venture AzRusTrans CJSC. The new company will be created in order to increase the share of rail transportation in freight turnover between Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Georgia and Turkey.

Azerbaijan invites Swiss companies to invest in non-oil sector

During the visit to Switzerland, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Raphael Comte, president of the Council of States, which is the upper house of Switzerland’s Federal Assembly (parliament). Speaking about the relations in economic sphere, the minister noted that more than 70 Swiss companies operate successfully in Azerbaijan. The foreign minister said that important transportation projects are being implemented in the country and expressed his confidence that Swiss companies will be interested in those projects. In this context, the parties exchanged views on expansion of the cooperation between the Stadler Rail and Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.

Ilham Aliyev inaugurates “Oksigen” plant in Baku

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the Baku steel company LLC to inaugurate “Oksigen” plant there. Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Baku Steel Company LLC informed the president about the work done there. The president was informed about the three new projects which are currently being implemented there.

Italian company interested in Azerbaijan's energy market

Italy’s Tenaris Global Services is interested in Azerbaijan’s energy market, said the company’s CEO Paolo Rocca during his meeting with Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Natig Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry said. He said that the company is ready to render its services in Azerbaijan and benefit from opportunities created by the energy cooperation and joint projects being implemented by Italy and Azerbaijan.

Ilham Aliyev holds talks with Pakistani PM

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif held negotiations in Baku.

Pakistan interested in North-South corridor

Pakistan is interested in the North-South transport corridor project, said Pakistani prime minister’s special adviser on foreign affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi in a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev in Baku. According to Mustafayev, Pakistan may make use of Azerbaijan’s transit opportunities, the free trade area and the North-South corridor.

Pharmaceutics, tourism, agriculture and trade issues were also discussed during the meeting.

Azerbaijan building plant on float glass output

A plant on float glass output is being built in Azerbaijan, said the press service of the country’s Economy Ministry said. An agreement was signed between AzerFloat CJSC, which is a resident of Azerbaijan’s Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park (SCIP), and Germany’s Horn Glass Industries AG, according to the press service. The plant, with a total investment of 89 million euros, will be put into operation in late 2018.
