Population’s income

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the nominal income of the population totaled 11.3 billion manat in January-March 2017, which is by 6.7 percent more compared to January-March 2016.

Thus, during the reporting period, the nominal income of the population per capita increased by 5.5 percent and reached 1171,3 manat.

The population’s income after paying all required fees and membership fees made up 10.45 billion manat in January-March 2017, which is by 6.9 percent more than in January-March 2016. Real income per capita increased by 5.8 percent and reached 1077,2 manat.

Salary

The salary is one of the key social and economic indicators, which sufficiently enough characterizes the level of the prosperity of the working part of the population. According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the average monthly salary in Azerbaijan in January-February 2017 increased by 5.9 percent from year to year and reached 499.9 manat.

The amount of salary decreased by 4.9 manat in February compared to the previous month, which is connected with the reduction of the wage fund in the private sector.

Remuneration in the oil sector reached 3007,1 manat for the month, the non-oil sector – 440.6 manat, the public sector – 378.9 manat, the private sector – 671.5 manat as of March 1, 2017.

The highest salary was observed in the mining industry, financial, information and communication, scientific and technical activity, as well as the construction sectors.

The salary of those working in the construction sector increased by 2.1 percent for the year and amounted to 821.7 manat in January-February 2017.

Labor market

As of April 1, 2017, some 35,600 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan, including 37.5 percent women, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee’s report said. According to the report, the number of unemployed increased by 10.2 percent in the country compared to the same period of 2016.

The average monthly unemployment benefit is 269.7 manat in Azerbaijan in January-March 2017, which is by 1.3 percent more than in January-March 2016.

As of early April 2017, the economically active population reached 5.02 million people, increasing by 2.4 percent compared to the same period of 2016.

Thus, the number of hired employees exceeded 1.51 million people, including 886,800 people worked in the state sector, and 628,900 people - in private sector.

Some 34,400 people work in the oil sector, while 1.48 million people in the non-oil sector.

Around 22.2 percent fall to the hired employees involved in the production spheres: 6.1 percent in construction, 6.8 percent in manufacturing industry, 3.1 percent in agriculture, forestry and fishing, 2.3 percent - in the mining industry, 2.1 percent - water supply, waste recycling, 2.1 percent - in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam, 22.1 percent in education, 19.3 percent - trade, repair of vehicles, 8.7 percent - medical and social services, 7.1 percent in state governance and defense, social maintenance, 4.7 percent - transportation and warehousing, 3.8 percent - recreation, entertainment and arts, 3.5 percent – professional, scientific and technical activities, 1.6 percent - communication and information, 1.6 percent - financial and insurance activities, 1.2 percent - real estate transactions, 1.6 percent - administrative and additional services, 1.5 percent – tourist accommodation and catering and 1.1 percent - other areas.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population continued to take active measures for people’s employment in the reporting period.

Thus, the labor contract was extended with 17,900 employees in January-March 2017. Some 23,500 employees concluded a new labor contract with the employer. Some 26,700 people were provided with jobs. Some 1,226 people were involved in training courses and additional education.

Social Security

According to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population, 3.44 million employees are socially insured in Azerbaijan.

Some 71,852 more people were registered in the individual registration system of the State Social Protection Fund in January-March 2017, which is by 56.8 percent more than in January-March 2016 (26,015 people).

Some 683,482 people (19.8 percent), registered in the system, are those under 30 years old, 889,358 people (25.8 percent) are people aged 30-40, 685,049 people (19.9 percent) – aged 40-50, 717,231 people (20.8 percent) – aged 50-60 and the rest of the insured people - older 60.

As of April 1, some 3,443,358 people were registered in the system, 59.5 percent of which - men, 40.5 percent – women.
