Azerbaijani president’s successful strategy creates basis for labor market development
The conditions were created for economic diversification as a result of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s successful socio-economic development strategy, Elman Babayev, head of the department of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, said.
“This strategy formed the basis for taking measures for employment and labor market development,” he said.
Babayev added that the private sector has been expanded, new industrial zones, new production and processing enterprises have been established, agriculture, tourism, construction, etc. have been developed due to the state support in Azerbaijan.
"Over the past ten years, more than 1.6 million new jobs were created in the country, including 122,000 new jobs in January-June 2017,” he said. “The level of poverty and unemployment has been maintained at a low level due to these processes [approximately five percent]."
“The level of poverty among young people in the country is 9.4 percent,” Babayev said, adding that Azerbaijan is among the countries with a low unemployment level among young people.
“Meanwhile, 56,631 people were provided with jobs through the ministry’s employment agencies in 2016, while 33,654 people in January-June 2017,” he said.
