Prices and situation in consumer market in Azerbaijan (January-August 2017)

According to the State Statistics Committee, as of January-August 2017, 27.7 billion manat accounted for the Azerbaijani consumer market, which is by 1.7 percent more than its turnover for January-August 2016.

The monthly consumer expenses are estimated at 356.5 manat per capita in January-August 2017 or by 46.4 manat more compared to January-August 2016.

The retail trade turnover amounted to 21.7 billion manat in January-August 2017, which is by 2.0 percent more than in January-August 2016.

Legal entities ensured 11.9 percent of the trade turnover.

Some 279.4 manat account for the people’s shopping monthly, which is by 39.5 manat more than in January-August 2016.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, food trade (10,983.0 million manat) increased by 1.2 percent in real terms.

Some 10,740.0 million manat (2.8 percent of real growth) accounted for the retail sales of non-food products.

Paid services worth 5,164.1 million manat were rendered to the population in January-August 2017 or by 0.6 percent more compared to January-August 2016. Legal entities ensured 73.6 percent of this growth and rendered the services worth 3,802.3 million manat.

Every citizen of the country used paid services worth 531.4 manat per month in January-August 2017, which is by 44.6 manat more than in January-August 2016.

Transportation, public utilities and communication services prevail in the structure of paid services.

Prices

According to the State Statistics Committee, the prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 0.2 percent in August 2017 compared to July 2017.

The food prices increased by 0.3 percent, non-food items – 0.1 percent and paid services - by 0.2 percent in Azerbaijan during the reporting period.

The prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 14 percent in Azerbaijan in January-August 2017 compared to January-August 2016.

The food prices increased by 18.2 percent, non-food items - by 12.6 percent, paid services – 9.6 percent in Azerbaijan during this period.

The prices for beef and mutton, sausages, pasteurized milk, cheese, butter and olive oil, cherries, sweet cherries, apricots, watermelons, strawberries, cabbages, greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, green beans, beets, garlic, coffee and tea increased for the month.

The prices for flour, buckwheat and semolina, macaroni, chicken, eggs, sunflower and corn oil, sugar and granulated sugar, bananas, apples, pears, cherry-plums, peaches, grapes, eggplants, sweet peppers, carrots, potatoes, onions and tobacco decreased.

During the reporting period, prices for fabrics, footwear, construction materials, furniture and household utensils, household appliances, small electrical appliances, cars and spare parts, bicycles, stationery and jewelry increased, while prices for clothing and mobile phones decreased.

During the reporting period, prices for dry cleaning services, repair and clothes on rent, rent of apartments, dental services, car repair, international passenger transportation by air, taxi services, paid education, hairdressing services and cosmetic services also increased.

The prices for international tours, international passenger transportation by rail and hotel rooms decreased.

The prices for other paid services remained unchanged.

The base index of consumer prices, calculated except for the goods and services subject to seasonal changes (fruits and vegetables) increased by 13.2 percent in January-August 2017 compared to January-August 2016.

The producer prices for industrial products increased by 4.8 percent in Azerbaijan in July 2017 compared to June 2017.

During the reporting period, producer prices in the mining industry increased by 6.2 percent, while in the manufacturing industry – 0.9 percent.

The producer prices for industrial products increased by 42.9 percent, while the producer prices in the mining industry - by 43.3 percent and manufacturing industry – 32.4 percent in January-August 2017 compared to January-August 2016.
