On Thursday President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree on the appointment of the next parliamentary elections on May 6, the press service of the republic said, RIA Novosti reported.

On Thursday President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree on the appointment of the next parliamentary elections on May 6, the press service of the republic said, RIA Novosti reported.

Armenia's National Assembly consists of 131 deputies: 41 deputies chosen by the majority, and 90 - under the proportional system.

The last parliamentary elections were held in Armenia in May 2007. According to their results five parties joins the Parliament. Three of them - Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), the Prosperous Armenia and Rule of Law formed a coalition government. The other two parties, the Heritage and ARF are oppositional. Republican Party has a majority of seats in parliament - 63 mandates, Prosperous Armenia - 26, the Rule of Law - 8, Faction and Heritage - 16 and 7 seats mandates respectively.
