A presidential candidate in Armenia Andrias Gukasyan began the first day of the campaign with a promised hunger strike in front of the National Academy of Sciences, 7or.am.reported.

Ghukasyan appealed to the CEC Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan regarding free elections in the country and declared a hunger strike.

Presidential elections in Armenia will be held on Feb. 18, 2013.

Those running for the presidency are the incumbent president and ruling Republican Party leader Serzh Sargsyan, former prime minister and leader of the Freedom Party Grant Bagratyan, ex-Foreign Minister and chairman of the Heritage Party Raffi Hovhannisyan, Paruyr Hayrikyan, Arman Melikyan, Andreas Ghukasyan, Vardan Setrakian and the leader of the National Accord party Aram Harutyunyan.
