The number of deaths in the Armenian armed forces has increased in 2012 compared with 2011, a statement of Vanadzor office of the Armenian Helsinki Group (AHG) made in response to the statistics presented by Armenian Military Prosecutor's Office said, Armenia Today reported.
The number of deaths reached 48 in 2012, whereas it stood at 39 in 2011, AHG statement said.
"We believe that the supreme commander of the Republic of Armenia, the defence minister and law enforcement agencies must show serious approach towards each case of violation of human rights and signals of social organizations and media on these cases and make fundamental changes to allay public concern," the statement said.
Armenian military prosecutor Gagik Kostanyan presented generalized information on the state of crime in the military in 2012 at a press conference on January 17, saying that sharp decline was observed in number of fatalities, reaching 29.
