The fire which broke out at night in the building of a large shipping company Spike located in an industrial area on the outskirts of Yerevan has been brought under control, News-Armenia agency's senior official of the Rescue Service of the Emergency Control Ministry of Armenia Hovhannes Yemishyan said.

"Work on finally extinguishing the fire is underway which will presumably take around 90 minutes," he said.

According to EMERCOM, the fire area is about 4500 square metres and covered three floors of the building. The fire is rated as having the third complexity degree. In total, the fire involves 26 units of special equipment, a smoke protection group, two rescue teams, 114 fire-fighters and rescue workers of the Centre for Rescue Works of Special Purpose and an emergency response group.

Yemishyan reported that the cause of the fire and the amount of damage are not yet known.

"Information about the damage will be provided by the company's administration," he added.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia Armen Yeritsyan and a director of Spayka Company who have so far refrained from talking to reporters are at the site.

Spike Ltd. founded in 2001 is the largest international automobile carrier in Armenia which conducts international automobile freight traffic in the CIS and Europe. One of the main areas of its activity is also the production of packaging including boxes and pallets made of polystyrene foam.
