Armenia to host plenary session of Euronest PA

The 4th plenary session of the Euronest parliamentary assembly will be held in Yerevan March 16-20, 2015, the chairman of committee on foreign relations of the National Assembly of Armenia Artak Zakarian told reporters Oct.22.

He made the remarks summing up the results of last week's meeting of Euronest PA Bureau in Brussels, News -Armenia agency said.

Zakarian said that the national assembly of Armenia in 2013 proposed to hold a plenary session of the Euronest parliamentary assembly in 2014 in Armenia.

However, Armenia's proposal was delayed until 2015, because it was planned to hold the elections of the European Parliament, he said.

"Armenia will host a delegation of five member countries of Eastern Partnership, as well as a delegation of about 60 representatives of the European Parliament," said Zakarian.

He said that Armenia will hold a meeting of the bureau, the two working groups and the meeting of the four commissions.

Euronest, which represents the deputies of the European Parliament and the parliaments of the countries of the Eastern Partnership of the EU (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine), which are the parliamentary component of the Eastern Partnership.

Initiative of the Eastern Partnership was launched by Poland and Sweden, and approved at the EU summit in Brussels in 2008. It was formally established in May 2009 in Prague.

The purpose of the program is the EU rapprochement with Ukraine, Armenia, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Belarus without their admission to the EU. The program provides a significant increase in the level of political cooperation, broad integration of the former Soviet republics in the EU economy, increase of the amount of financial assistance and intensification of energy security.
