Georgian Parliament Passes Constitutional Amendments on Election System

Georgia, Tbilisi / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia / The Georgian Parliament passed the final constitutional amendments, which will define the next proportion of majority and proportional systems 75 on 75 with 165 votes for and two against.

Under the new amendments passed in the Constitution, Parliament approved holding parliamentary elections in spring 2008, as well as the introduction of the post of Vice Premier to the Constitution and definition of the status of authorized officials. The President will set a date for the parliamentary elections.

About 300 participants of a rally in front of Parliament negatively accepted the decision of the department. They believe that a majority system will allow the Government to fake the results of elections
