Statement by Head of Rusian Joint Staff Poses Contains Military Threat for Georgia and Ukraine: Foreign Minister

Georgia, Tbilisi / corr. Trend N. Kirtskhalia/ David Bakradze, the Georgian foreign minister called 'very alarming' the statement by Yuriy Baluevski, Head of Russian Joint Staff. "It is very alarmimg and inapropriate when the Russian military leader uses such terms about the neighboring country," the foreign minister briefed to the media.

Yuriy Baluevskiy, the Head of Joint Staff of Russia as well as the miilitary leader,stated that Russia will take measures to protect its interests near its borders in case of Georgia and Ukraine's admission to NATO .

"This statement contains military threat for Georgia and Ukraine, and it once again show why these countries are striving for NATO," Bakradze said.

"Such statements shows that optimism of several European countries will soften the position of Russia regarding the enlargement of NATO soon," said minister.

Bakradze said that soon the Georgian Foreign Ministry will officially respond to the statement by Baluevski.
