Georgia, Tbilisi, 20 June / corr. Trend N.Kirtzkhalia / The Georgian Green party threatens Russia with frustration of the Sochi Olympic Games in 2014, if the latter stops its interference into the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict. The Sochi Olympic Games will play an important political role for Russia, Georgi Gachechiladze, the head of the Green Party, said at the press conference on 19 June.

Gachechiladze noted that Russia was confronted shortages in the construction materials and the construction and inert materials were exported through the Abkhazia seaboard.

"It is inescapable to violate ecological balance in the eastern Black Sea region because of the construction scale," he said.

The Green Party said that Russia was in need of 110-150mln cu m of the construction and inert materials. The total area of the quarries of inert materials amounted to 32.5mln cu m in Abkhazia. "If this quantity is not enough, the materials will be exported from seaboard of the Codor cape and this will cause the violation of the ecological balance and catastrophe. The sea will cover 10m of the territory a year," Gachechiladze said.

According to Gachechiladze, with these actions Russia does not only ignore the Georgian territorial integrity, but also violates the international responsibility, especially ecological requirements written in the Olympics Law.

The Green Party sent an official appeal to the International Olympics Committee, the European Green Party, the European Parliament and the US Administration demanding to suspend preparatory work and organize a special monitoring group with the participation of the above-listed organizations, which will decide expediency of holding Winter Olympic Games in Russia.
