Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said Friday that his country will withdraw peacekeepers from Iraq, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.
The troops would be withdrawn from Iraq on Aug. 9, the president said in an interview with CNN.
Georgia took part in the peacekeeping operation in Iraq in 2003and it has had 2,000 peacekeepers in Iraq since last summer, reported Xinhua. The peacekeepers are rotated every six months.
It was reported earlier that the Georgian troops would stay in Iraq until the end of this year.
