Shooting in Zugdidi Injures Police

Georgia, Tbilisi, 22 September / Trend corr. N.Kirtzkhalia / Two Georgian policemen were wounded in antitank mine blast at the post in Khurcha village of Zugdidi Region, at the administrative border with Abkhazia in the early hours of 22 September. Both wounded policemen were taken to the hospital in Zugdidi.

On 20 September the Georgian police post, which is located at this bridge, underwent armed attack of Abkhazia. Skirmish at the bridge killed one Georgia policemen and injured three of them. The injured people were taken to the Zugdidi hospital.

After skirmish the attackers left for the Russian post located near to the bridge. The Russian side did not give an opportunity to chase Abkhazians who attacked Georgian police.

Earlier, Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, stated that the Russian servicemen had not play the role of peacekeepers in Abkhazia, without explaining the status of federal block posts located in this territory. Russia did not sign an agreement on military base with Abkhazia, which was recognized by Moscow.
