President of Georgia welcomed the UN General Assembly adopting a resolution on the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced persons in Georgia. "This is a very significant and important resolution, which ensures the right to return of refugees and forcibly displaced persons to their homes, condemns the ethnic cleansing and violence committed by Russia against Georgia", - said Mikhail Saakashvili at a special briefing on the UN resolution.
"In addition, the document recognizes the right of property of people who were forced to leave their homes in Abkhazia and South Ossetia under threat of physical destruction", - he emphasized.
The President underlined that "this is the first resolution adopted by the UN in support of Georgia after the hot phase of the Georgia-Russia war". "This was not an easy decision, because Russia has used all forms of blackmail and coercion, and bribery and threats. They have taken all the measures, threatened by gas prices, have proposed 17 amendments to defer consideration of the resolution, but all were in vain", - he said.
"This is a diplomatic defeat, which is a disgrace for Russia", - said Saakashvili.
The President particularly noted that the resolution supported by 48 countries and all EU states are among them. "The EU supported the right of refugees to return, has refused to confirm a forced change in the demographic picture and supported the territorial integrity of Georgia. This again points to the fact that the truth is on our side and although we still have a long road to victory, but now nobody believes Russia and does not intend to ignore its attempts to capture a foreign country ", - he said.
Saakashvili stressed that the "let no one think that today we can speak with Georgia, after cropping off part of its territory". "We do not want anyone to talk to as long as the occupiers do not withdraw from our land. We do not waive any of our freedom or our territories, neither government, no responsible political force will make it", - he said.
Georgian President thanked the UN mission in Georgia and said that now with friends they have have much to do for final victory.
