Iranian Ambassador to Tbilisi Majid Samadzadeh Saber underlined the abundant commonalities shared by Iran and Georgia, and urged the two states to boost their efforts to expand mutual cooperation in energy, transit and agricultural fields, Fars news agency reported.
"Energy, electricity, transit, transportation and agriculture are important grounds for cooperation between the two countries and good agreements have already been made in these fields," Samadzadeh Saber said, addressing an international conference dubbed 'Georgia; Past Experiences, Future Perspectives' here in Tehran on Sunday.
He further mentioned that lifting visa requirements, facilitating visits by the two countries' nationals, establishing direct flights, inaugurating Iran's consulate office and signing numerous Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) have been the most important developments in the ties between the two countries.
In November, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili had underlined the Islamic Republic of Iran's important role in the regional and international developments.
"Iran is not an ordinary country for us and we believe that the country is now playing a key role in regional and global developments," Saakashvili said in a meeting with former Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki in Georgian capital city of Tbilisi.
He described Iran as part of his country's national dignity and culture, and called for expansion of relations between the two countries.
"We are sensitive to all issues pertaining to the Islamic Republic of Iran," Saakashvili stated.
