Businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili has been the honorary consul of San Marino in Georgia since 2000, Georgian First Deputy Foreign Minister Nikoloz Vashakidze told press on Monday.
He said the honorary consul usually fulfills the functions assigned by the government of the country.
"Basically, the activity is limited by promoting economic relations," he said. "I must say that Bidzina Ivanishvili has done nothing serious during his activity in that direction."
The Georgian Foreign Ministry's official representative made this statement because last week billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili voiced his intention to form a party and to take part in the parliamentary elections of 2012.
The billionaire has also expressed willingness to abandon his French and Russian citizenship, and to sell his business in Russia.
