The so-called political class of Russia should be aware of that Georgia's NATO integration is irreversible, Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze told journalists commenting on the former Russian representative to NATO Dmitry Rogozin's statement.

The Russian diplomat called obstacles caused by Russia on the way of Georgia and Ukraine's accession to NATO as "the country's main achievement".

Vashadze said Georgia will surely become a member of the Alliance, and in this respect, progress will be visible in the near future.

"It is difficult to remember when the politician told the truth for the last time. Russia actually attempted to slow down Georgia's NATO integration, where in 2008 invaded our country, began to kill innocent civilians, expelled people from their homes. This is Russia's policy," Vashadze said.

Vashadze also responded to the statement by the NATO Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai made in Moscow on Oct.25. He said that Georgia and Ukraine accession to NATO depends on democratic reforms.

"NATO welcomes the democratic reforms which are being carried out in Georgia," Vashadze said.

"The Alliance reaffirms its clear course in connection with Georgia's accession to NATO. The Alliance continues to closely cooperate with Georgia and welcomes all those democratic reforms, which are being carried out in Georgia. It all depends on us, what quality of democracy we will have, and we do it not for NATO and Europe. We are doing it for the sake of our children, grandchildren, and our citizens," he said.
