Georgia's ex-president Edward Shvardnadze regards as dangerous building a direct road, which will connect Armenia to Adjaria.
"This project can pose demographic problems for Georgia," he said to Asaval-Dasavali weekly.
During his visit to Georgia last week Armenian President Serj Sargsyan discussed building this road with his colleague Mikheil Saakashvili. They agreed to intensify the process of building the road, which connect Armenia to Batumi through Goderdzi. Saakashvili added that it will promote in-flow of Armenian tourists to Georgia.
Meanwhile, Shevardnadze is afraid of changing demographic situation in Adjariya as a result of Armenian migrations. "Look at Abkhazia, there are more Armenians than Abkhazians," he said.
Shevardnadze didn't exclude that Georgian powers would go to concession to Armenia and pass it some churches which Georgian Patriarch believes as disputable.
